The Crypt Sessions Is Expanding...
Friends, music-lovers, Crypt-dwellers, lend me your ears...
As we approach our Season 3 summer hiatus following John Holiday's sold-out Crypt Session on April 26, I'm very excited to announce that we're expanding our concert presenting work, taking it out of the Crypt and into new and exciting places...
First up:
We're partnering with the nationally-syndicated radio show Relevant Tones to bring you Modern Mexico on May 1, celebrating Cinco de Mayo early with a private tasting of mezcal led by master distiller Alejandro Aispuro (read about him here, he's amazing), followed by a concert of modern Mexican classical music.
We're flying Alejandro up from Mexico City for the event, and he's bringing a few cases of his private collection of mezcales - this is stuff you can't get in stores, either in Mexico or the U.S. We'll meet him at Bowery Electric, where he's going to guide us through each selection, and teach us to appreciate the glories of mezcal.
Then, we'll take the short walk to (le) poisson rouge, where we'll enjoy a concert of contemporary classical music by some of Mexico's foremost composers, including Gabriela Ortiz, Felipe PĂ©rez Santiago, Ana Lara, Hilda Paredes, and Mexico's most celebrated living composer, Mario Lavista. Because we love danger, the concert will be broadcast live nationally on Relevant Tones. So please refrain from shouting out cuss words...
Second up:
We'll be announcing our new series next week...it's going to be something special, and you'll be the first people to know about it.
More to come...
