The final work Franz Schubert completed in his too-short life, his String Quintet in C major is generally agreed (especially among us Classical Music nerds) to be one of the most deeply moving, transporting pieces of music ever written. The work moves between sorrow, serenity, and sublimity, with a slow movement so utterly celestial and miraculous that legendary pianist Artur Rubinstein called it “the arrival at the gates of heaven,” and had it played to him at his deathbed.
To perform this overwhelming masterpiece, we're thrilled to welcome the extraordinary talents of the Parker Quartet ("something extraordinary," per The New York Times), along with the singular cellist Jay Campbell, who has played in both the Crypt and the Catacombs with his JACK Quartet, and whose music-making The Washington Post called “gentle, poignant, and deeply moving.”
There are some pieces of music which, when performed by truly world-class musicians, are capable of completely and totally penetrating into the deepest reaches of our being. This is that kind of piece, and these are those kinds of musicians. Don't miss it.
