This Fall marked the 150th birthday of Charles Ives, one of America's greatest composers, curmudgeons, and actuarial insurance business owners (seriously, look up that last part). In celebration of this milestone, we're thrilled to present a one-night-only event with two of the foremost interpreters of all things Ivesian: piano legend and New York Times-bestselling author Jeremy Denk, and violin phenom and DoC veteran Stefan Jackiw. This dynamic duo will perform his first and fourth Violin Sonatas, plus his jaunty "In the Barn" movement from his second Violin Sonata – all of which they recorded for the just-released IVES DENK album on Nonesuch – and share some insights about the composer's life and music.
Given this Crypt Session will be sold out by the time you've read this far, it's worth noting that you'll have another chance to hear Jeremy Denk perform Ives on Dec 12 in the hallowed halls of 92NY, playing the "Concord" Sonata alongside works by Beethoven, Joplin, Nina Simone and more - don't miss it!

Jeremy Denk is one of America’s foremost pianists, proclaimed by the New York Times as "a pianist you want to hear no matter what he performs". Denk is also a New York Times bestselling author, the recipient of both the MacArthur 'Genius' Fellowship and the Avery Fisher Prize, and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Stefan Jackiw is one of America’s foremost violinists, captivating audiences with playing that combines poetry and purity with impeccable technique. Hailed for playing of “uncommon musical substance” that is “striking for its intelligence and sensitivity” (Boston Globe), Jackiw has appeared as a soloist with the Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, New York, Philadelphia, and San Francisco symphony orchestras, among others.
